The man was riding a scooter on Seventh Street near Orizaba Avenue when he lost control, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a man who lost control while riding a motorized scooter in the Rose Park neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Long Beach police say the man was riding the scooter westbound on Seventh Street on the north sidewalk towards Orizaba Avenue around 8:36 a.m. when he lost control and fell to the ground.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the man medical aid before taking him to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, authorities said.
The man's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office works to identify him and notify his next of kin, according to the LBPD.
Police said they do not believe speed, distracted driving or driving under the influence were factors in the crash.
This is the 24th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 18 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
