Man injured in Washington neighborhood shooting, Long Beach police say

Authorities are investigating a shooting in Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood that left a man injured Sunday night.

Police say the man was in the 1500 block of Locust Avenue around 9:31 p.m. Sunday when an unknown suspect shot him and fled the scene.

Officers responded to the area and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

He was taken by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his wound is not considered life-threatening and that he is in stable condition.

It’s not yet clear why the suspect shot the man or whether they knew each other. Police said they are still looking into a motive.
