Police are investigating a shooting in North Long Beach Tuesday night that left a man hospitalized, according to authorities.
A man was walking in the 5300 block of Atlantic Avenue around 9 p.m. when someone shot him multiple times in the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The man then took out his gun and tried shooting the person who had shot him, police said.
Officers arrived soon after to the scene of the crime, and discovered evidence of a shooting, but both people involved had already left the area, according to the LBPD.
The officers were called a short time later to a local hospital where a man with multiple gunshot wounds had arrived, police said.
Though the man was uncooperative with the officers, they determined he was the person that had been the person injured in the shooting earlier, according to the LBPD.
The man is expected to recover as his injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
A motive for the shooting is unclear and police said the investigation is ongoing.
