A man who police say was hospitalized in March after crashing his motorcycle into the side of a truck at the Port of Long Beach has died, authorities announced Thursday.

Police say 44-year-old San Pedro resident Alejandro Salazar was riding near Pier T Avenue south of Pier T Lane just before 7 a.m. on March 25 when he crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck the side of a Dodge Ram truck traveling southbound on Pier T Avenue.

The driver of the truck stopped, rendered aid to Salazar and called 911, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and took Salazar to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to police.

On Wednesday, detectives were notified that Salazar died as a result of his injuries, authorities said.

Investigators said Salazar may have been speeding when he crashed into the truck, according to the LBPD.

Police ask anyone who may have more information on the crash to call detectives at 562-570-7355.
