A man died after being hit by three cars near Alamitos Beach, authorities said.

Long Beach police said the man was crossing Ocean Boulevard in a marked crosswalk at Falcon Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the driver of a dark colored sedan traveling eastbound on Ocean struck him.

That driver fled the scene, according to police.

Then a 2016 BMW X3 driven by a 59-year-old resident of Tustin that was also traveling eastbound on Ocean Boulevard struck the pedestrian, who was lying in the roadway, police said. This driver immediately pulled over after realizing they had just hit the pedestrian and cooperated with the investigation, police added.

Shortly after a dark colored sedan, traveling eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, also struck the pedestrian in the roadway, according to the LBPD. That driver then fled the area, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to authorities. The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner is still working to identify the pedestrian and notify the next of kin, police said.

At this time, police said that speed and distracted driving are being considered as contributing factors in the collision involving the vehicles that fled the scene.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The driver of the car, identified as a 28-year-old resident of Garden Grove, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

The pedestrian's identity is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner notifies the next of kin, according to the LBPD.

At this time, speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to the collision, police said.

A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed at this same intersection last month.

Police are asking anyone who saw the collision Thursday morning to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Kevin Johansen at 562-570-7355.
