A man who suffered serious injuries during a crash involving a Metro train on Long Beach Boulevard last month has died, police announced Tuesday.

Police say the man, identified as Naythan Hall, 22, of Lakewood, was one of two passengers in a car traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard just north of Anaheim Street in a 2014 Infinity Q50S at a high rate of speed with no headlights around 11:53 p.m. on May 23, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

That's when a 2019 Honda Civic driven by a 29-year-old male resident of Long Beach turned from Anaheim Street onto southbound Long Beach Boulevard in front of the Infinity, police said. The driver of the Honda swerved out of the way to avoid being rear-ended and hit a guardrail, police added.

The driver of the Infinity also swerved but lost control and hit a Metro train, according to police.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the driver and the passengers of the Infinity to local hospitals, police said. The driver, Kathrine Rodriguez, 21, of Compton, died of her injuries at the hospital the night of the crash, according to the LA County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Honda remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. He was uninjured, according to the department.

On May 29, Hall died at the hospital of his injuries, police said.

At this time, speed and impaired driving are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the collision to call Detective Ashley Van Holland of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355.
