Police arrested a man for allegedly beating his brother so badly during an argument that he later died, according to authorities.

Long Beach police say Marcellus Johnson, 56, who is currently homeless, was arguing with his brother Mark Johnson, also 56, in the 2500 block of Delta Avenue around 6 p.m. Sunday. The fight turned violent and Marcellus physically assaulted his brother, police said.

LBPD officers arrested Marcellus the day after the fight on charges of attempted murder, according to police. His bail was set at $1 million.

On Tuesday, Mark, who had been hospitalized with major trauma after the fight, died of his injuries, police said.

Following Mark's death, LBPD detectives filed a murder charge with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to authorities. Marcellus's bail was subsequently increased to $2 million, police added.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call Homicide Detectives Oscar Valenzuela and Jesus Espinoza at 562-570-7244.
