Man arrested in Mexico after killing girlfriend in Long Beach, police say
Erik Alcantar, 44, allegedly killed Aracely Romero, 45, during a domestic dispute before fleeing across the border.
A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Mexico for allegedly killing his girlfriend during a domestic dispute in Long Beach, police said Friday.
Long Beach police said Eric Alcantar, 44, killed Aracely Romero, 45, in a vehicle on Nov. 8. Both individuals lived in Long Beach, police said.
It's believed that Alcantar then drove from Long Beach to Tijuana, Mexico, where he turned himself in to Mexican authorities, according to the LBPD. Mexican authorities then located Romero's body in the vehicle, police added.
Alcantar was arrested in Tijuana on Nov. 8, according to authorities.
Romero had five children, ranging in age from 16 to 26, according to a GoFundMe set up after her death.
“Chely was the light of our family — the one who loved without limits, gave without asking, and carried everyone’s burdens with grace and kindness,” the family wrote. “She had the purest heart, always finding ways to make people smile, always putting others before herself. To know her was to feel warmth, love, and safety.”
LBPD detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on Nov. 11, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call LBPD Homicide Detectives at 562-570-7244.
