Man arrested in connection with shooting death of 16-year-old in North Long Beach, police say
Police say Ronald Guidry, 41, of Torrance, was responsible for the fatal Aug. 4 shooting in the 3300 block of 67th Street.
A Torrance man has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old in North Long Beach in August, police announced today.
Long Beach police say Ronald Guidry, 41, of Torrance, was responsible for the fatal shooting on Aug. 4 in the 3300 block of 67th Street.
The 16-year-old had just been dropped off by a relative in the area around 2:40 p.m., according to authorities
He returned a short time later, police said, but he was being follow by a group of people.
At some point, someone started shooting in the direction of the teen and their relative. The teen was struck in the upper and lower body by the gunfire before being able to get in the car, and the relative drove off to call the police, authorities said.
When officers arrived, they found the wounded 16-year-old in the street, police said. He died at the scene, they added.
His identity was not released because he is underage, but police said he was from Bell.
The group of subjects that had been following the teen back to the car had already ran away from the scene when the officers arrived, police said.
But through their investigation, detectives learned the motive for the shooting was gang-related and identified Guidry as a suspect in the shooting, police said.
A gang-related crime is one committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with any criminal street gang, according to the LBPD.
After a warrant was secured for Guidry’s arrest, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Oct. 17, located him and took him into custody, police said.
“This arrest is an important step in bringing justice for the young life lost to such a senseless crime,” said LBPD Chief Wally Hebeish. “Gang violence is not tolerated in our city, and our department remains steadfast in our commitment to hold those involved accountable.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, and we remain focused on continuing to make our neighborhoods safe for everyone.”
While serving additional warrants in Las Vegas, Moreno Valley, Rialto and Perris, authorities found evidence related to the shooting, according to police, who did not elaborate what evidence was found.
Guidry is now awaiting extradition to Los Angeles County, according to police. Police did not say what he would be booked for or charged with once he arrives to Los Angeles County.
They also did not say whether they are still looking for more suspects in the Aug. 4 shooting.
