Police arrested a man for intentionally hitting another man with his vehicle following an argument and then fleeing the scene, according to authorities.

Long Beach police say Isai Solis, 28, of Lynwood, was arguing with Samuel Ocegueda, 28, in the 1700 block of Newport Avenue around 1:47 a.m. Sunday.

Following the dispute, Ocegueda crossed Newport Avenue on foot outside the crosswalk, walking from east to west, police said. While Ocegueda was in the street, Solis then "intentionally struck the victim with his vehicle," according to the LBPD.

The vehicle, described as a dark four-door sedan, then fled the scene, continuing southbound on Newport Avenue and westbound on Wilton Street, police added.

LBPD officers and then Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave aid to Ocegueda, but he died at the scene, according to authorities.

LBPD detectives arrested Solis later Sunday in the 12400 block of Sante Fe Avenue in Lynwood, police said.

Police booked Solis for murder and his bail was set at $2 million, police added.

The LBPD will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call homicide detectives Oscar Valenzuela or Detective Jared Asato at 562-570-7244.

There have been 26 murder and non-negligent manslaughter offenses in Long Beach this year, down from 36 in 2024, according to LBPD statistics.
