The man was hospitalized after he 'negligently discharged" the gun, according to authorities.

Police are investigating a man who accidentally shot himself in Belmont Heights early Tuesday morning.

Long Beach police say the man was in the 3700 block of East Broadway around 2:17 a.m. when he "negligently discharged a firearm," hitting himself.

The man then went to a local hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body, according to authorities.

Police recovered the gun and their investigation is ongoing, according to the LBPD.
