Long Beach residents don't need to evacuate following mistaken alert
The city is not currently under an evacuation alert, Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent out a false evacuation notice Thursday afternoon to Long Beach residents, according to city officials.
The alert reached residents on their cellphones around 4 p.m.
Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson said in a post on X that the city is not under an evacuation notice and that residents should follow the city's official account for emergency updates.
According to the LACFD, the evacuation alert was meant for residents close to the 50-acre Kenneth Fire in West Hills in Ventura County. That fire has yet to be contained, according to CalFire.
