Long Beach public libraries getting upgrades

Some library services may be limited or not accessible at all through Nov. 5 as the new catalog system is being implemented.

The Long Beach Public Library began upgrading its catalog system Monday in a process that will run to early November, library officials announced last week.

The new system will be more accessible to users with features like better search options and the ability to create specific searches and lists and save them to your account.

During the catalog upgrade process, patrons can still check out items and access digital resources like OverDrive, Libby, Hoopla and Udemy. Library programs, computers, Wi-Fi, study and meeting rooms will remain available.

Be aware that during this time, some library services may be affected:

  • New holds will not be accepted, but prior holds will be fulfilled.
  • Starting Oct. 14, no new items will be added to the library’s catalog until the new system has gone live.
  • From Oct. 28 to Nov. 5, library branches cannot check in materials, create new library cards or process payments. Patrons are encouraged to hold onto their previously checked-out items and return them when the new system goes live.

The upgrades will continue to Tuesday, Nov. 5 and go live on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

For more information on the process, visit www.lbpl.org or email the Library at lbpl_reference@lbpl.org.
