Long Beach police schedule DUI checkpoint for Friday
The checkpoint will happen from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. somewhere in the city’s south division, according to police.
Long Beach police will hold a DUI checkpoint Friday in the city’s South Division, which covers the area from Anaheim Street to Harbor Scenic Drive and the Los Angeles River to Cherry Avenue, according to authorities.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Long Beach Police Lieutenant Jose Flores said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on data that shows where people are more likely to drive under the influence, authorities said.
In addition to alcohol, the LBPD said officers will be checking for drivers who may be driving under the influence of marijuana and prescription drugs.
Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face having their license suspended and average fines of $13,500, police said.
