Long Beach offering free holiday treecycling starting Thursday
Residents can drop off their trees at any of 12 locations seven days a week through Jan. 10, 2025.
Residents wishing to recycle their holiday trees can do so starting Thursday for free at any of a dozen locations throughout Long Beach, according to city officials.
The treecycling drop-off locations will be open each day through Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, city officials said.
Drop-off locations include Houghton Park, Scherer Park, Veterans Park, Wardlow Park, El Dorado Park, Hudson Park, the Public Works Environmental Office, Stearns Park, Orizaba Park, Cesar E. Chavez Park, Bixby Park and Marina Vista Park (click here for a map showing each drop-off location).
Treecycling hours at each location are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to the city.
The service is free to residents, but city officials ask that those recycling trees first remove all decorations from the tree, take it out of any stand, cut it in half if
it's more than 12 feet tall, and leave the tree unwrapped.
For those unable to drop off their trees by Jan. 10, there will be a special collection on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. To be eligible for pickup, trees must be at the usual trash collection spot by 7 a.m., city officials said.
The city recycles about 200 tons of holiday trees into land mulch each year, according to the Public Works Department.
