LBPD to hold DUI checkpoint in North Long Beach Friday
The checkpoint will be active from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.
The Long Beach Police Department will hold a DUI/Driver License checkpoint in its North Division area on Friday, Dec. 19.
The LBPD determines checkpoint locations using data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, police said.
Impaired driving can include being under of the influence of alcohol as well as prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana, both medicinal and recreational.
βImpaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,β Commander Jeremy Boshnack said a statement. βAny prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.β
A first-time DUI conviction can lead to an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, according to the LBPD.
The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
