The 1-year-old walked in front of her mother's vehicle as she was leaving a carport Wednesday, according to authorities.

An infant has died after being hit by a vehicle in North Long Beach, authorities said.
Long Beach police said the 1-year-old walked in front of her mother's vehicle as she was leaving a carport at her apartment in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue at about 6 p.m. The mother did not know her infant was in front of the car when she struck it, police added.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the infant to a local hospital, according to authorities. Despite life-saving efforts from paramedics and hospital personnel, the child died of its injuries, police said.
At this time, police said impaired driving and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Police are asking anyone who saw the collision to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
This is 31st traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year. There were 40 traffic fatalities in the city in 2024, according to police statistics.
