Man fatally stabs woman in West Long Beach, police say
Police say Leonard Lee Rowles Jr. stabbed and killed Alejandra Acosta Butron early Sunday morning in West Long Beach.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a woman he was apparently dating in West Long Beach early Sunday morning, police said.
Police say Long Beach resident Leonard Lee Rowles Jr. stabbed 30-year-old Alejandra Acosta Butron multiple times shortly before 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of Santa Fe Avenue.
Officers responded to the area after someone reported a possible burglary at a gated community, police said.
When the officers got there, they found Butron lying in a roadway in the area with stab wounds to her upper and lower body, police said. Despite efforts by police and fire department personnel to save her life, the 30-year-old Long Beach woman died at the scene, authorities said.
Officers located Rowles near the scene and took him into custody on suspicion of killing Butron. His bail was set at $2 million, they added.
Police did not say what led them to identity Rowles as a suspect or why they believe he would have stabbed Butron.
βWhile detectives have determined that the suspect and victim were in a dating relationship, the motive and circumstances leading up to the stabbing are still under investigation,β police said in a release today.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
