Elderly woman dead after crashing into parked car during apparent medical emergency, police say
Police say the woman was slowly driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Fourth Street around 5:30 p.m. when she crashed into a parked car.
A 77-year-old woman died Monday evening after suffering a medical emergency and then crashing into a parked car along Fourth Street, Long Beach police said Tuesday.
Police say the woman was slowly driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Fourth Street around 5:30 p.m. when she crashed into a parked car.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to the woman before taking her to a hospital where she died, police said.
The woman appeared to be having a medical emergency when she crashed, according to police, who said speed, distracted driving and impaired driving did not appear to be factors.
She's only been identified as a Long Beach resident. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office, meanwhile, is working to contact her relatives, according to authorities.
There have been 38 traffic fatalities in Long Beach this year, according to data tracked by the Watchdog. In 2023, there were 36.
The Long Beach Police Department asks that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
