Driver dies after crash in Hellman neighborhood, police say
This is the 49th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year, up from 40 last year, data shows.
Police say theyβre investigating the death of a man involved in a crash near 10th Street and Orange Avenue Tuesday morning.
The man was driving a 2000 black Honda Accord eastbound on 10th Street around 4:30 a.m. when he attempted to make a u-turn from the south curb, according to Long Beach police. As the man made the turn, he strayed into the path of a black 2023 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 36-year-old Long Beach resident, which struck the driver's side of the Honda Accord, police added.
Upon arrival, LBPD officers found the driver of the Accord unconscious and still in the driver's seat, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave medical aid to the man before taking him to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, police said.
No other injuries were reported, according to police.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
At this time, the LBPD said it does not believe that distracted driving or driving under the influence are contributing factors in the collision.
