Dog shot, killed after alleged New Year's Eve attack, Long Beach police say

The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation, but it appears the dog attacked a man around 7:43 a.m. in the 800 block of Alamitos Avenue, police said.

Police are investigating a New Year's Eve shooting that left a dog dead near Downtown Long Beach.

The dog appears to have attacked a man around 7:43 a.m. in the 800 block of Alamitos Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

That's when the man shot the dog and fled the scene, police said.

It's unclear whether the dog belonged to anyone or what prompted the supposed attack. The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation, police added.
