Deputies fatally shoot man they say charged at them with scissors in Paramount
The incident occurred after a domestic dispute Sunday night, according to Lakewood Sheriffs.
Lakewood Sheriff Department deputies shot and killed a man they say charged at them with a pair of scissors following a domestic dispute at a home in Paramount Sunday night.
Authorities say deputies were called to the home in the 8400 block of Quimby Avenue around 8 p.m. after a 30-year-old punched his father during an argument.
The deputies located the 30-year-old in the home’s backyard holding a pair of scissors roughly eight inches long, according to the LASD.
“The suspect immediately and aggressively advanced towards deputy personnel,” the LASD said in statement. “A less lethal Taser was deployed but ineffective.”
The 30-year-old continued charging at the deputies and that’s when at least one of them shot him, according to the LASD. He died at the scene, they added. His identity was not immediately released.
The LASD and other agencies will conduct an investigation into the shooting to determine whether the deputies actions were within protocol.
