Death of woman hit by Long Beach Transit bus ruled a suicide, police say
Police say the woman was in the roadway in the area of Shoreline Drive and Seventh Street on Nov. 27 when the city bus hit her.
The death of a woman who was struck by a Long Beach Transit bus in Downtown Long Beach last week has been ruled a suicide, police announced today.
Police say the woman was in the roadway in the area of Shoreline Drive and Seventh Street on Nov. 27 when the city bus hit her.
Despite efforts to save her life by Long Beach Fire personnel, the woman died at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Authorities said at the time that the bus driver wasn't speeding, distracted or impaired and that the woman was outside of a marked crosswalk when it happened.
Police officials also said that the Long Beach Transit would assist with the investigation.
It's unclear exactly what that investigation entailed, but police on Tuesday announced that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office ruled that the manner of death was suicide.
The woman's identity has yet to be revealed as the medical examiner works to notify her family.
Police, meanwhile, encourage witnesses to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
