Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was killed in a crash in North Long Beach Friday night.
Long Beach police say a person driving a 2023 Hyundai Tucson was traveling westbound on Del Amo Boulevard near Locust Avenue around 8 p.m. when the pedestrian ran into traffic.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the man aid before taking him to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries, according to authorities.
Police are withholding the manβs name while the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Police said they do not believe speed, distracted driving or driving under the influence were factors in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
This is the 18th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported eight traffic fatalities by this time last year.
