Crash in Franklin neighborhood kills man, police say
The driver may have been speeding when they hit the man Wednesday night, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a pickup truck while walking onto Seventh Street Wednesday night.
Long Beach police say the man walked onto the street near St. Louis Avenue between two parked cars around 10:48 p.m. when he was hit by a person driving a 2007 Toyota Tundra traveling eastbound.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
The man's identity is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office notifies his next of kin, police said.
The driver of the Tundra remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Police say they are investigating whether speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
This is the eighth traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported just two traffic fatalities by this time last year.
