Burglary suspect prompts SWAT response at Millikan High, police say

Long Beach Police Department SWAT officers responded to Millikan High School Friday morning in search of a burglary suspect, according to authorities.

Long Beach Unified School officials said in a message to the Millikan community that someone activated the school’s alarm around 3 a.m.

Long Beach police officers and a SWAT team arrived afterward at the high school and searched for a suspect, the LBPD said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Police have not said whether they found who they were looking for, but according to LBUSD officials, the officers have since completed their sweep and the campus is secure.

All school activities, including Millikan’s Homecoming festivities, will resume as normal, LBUSD officials said.

LBPD officers, however, will remain on campus to continue their forensics investigation at a bungalow connected to the incident, LBUSD officials said.

As a result, East Belen Street will be closed and the parking lot near Palo Verde Avenue will not be open, LBUSD officials said.

“We’re grateful for your support and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff,” they added.
