Burglar stabs man near Alamitos Beach, police say
The suspect broke into the man’s home in the 0 block of Fourth Place Monday morning and stabbed him during an altercation, authorities say.
Police say they’ve arrested a burglar who broke into a home near Alamitos Beach and stabbed a man.
The suspect, according to Long Beach police, broke into the home shortly after 5 a.m. in the 0 block of Fourth Place, just north of the Alamitos Beach area.
At some point, the suspect and the man living in the home encountered each other, prompting an altercation, police said.
That’s when the suspect stabbed the man multiple times in the upper body and fled the scene, according to police.
Authorities arrived at the scene and found the injured victim, police said. They took him to a local hospital where he is expected to survive, they added.
Officers, meanwhile, located the suspect nearby, police said. He was uncooperative and officers used 40 mm less-lethal rounds to take him into custody in connection to the stabbing, police said.
The suspect was identified him as 46-year-old Anthony Bartolo Olivas, a homeless man, police said, adding that he was booked on suspicion of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.
The victim, meanwhile, is expected to survive after being taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
