Bomb squad responds to report of ‘suspicious device’ in Washington neighborhood, police say

A bomb squad with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been called in to Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood after a suspicious device was found in the area Sunday afternoon.

Authorities didn’t specify what the suspicious device looked like, but a spokesperson with the Long Beach Police Department said it was found along Magnolia Avenue between Cowles and Anaheim streets around 12:47 p.m.

Officers have since responded to investigate, promoting closures to the northbound and southbound lanes on Magnolia Avenue are closed between the two streets, authorities said.

“We advise the community to avoid the area,” police said.
