Blaze in East Long Beach ravages through vegetation, destroys palm trees
Fire crews worked for roughly two hours to put out the blaze, fire officials say.
Firefighters extinguished a large brush fire in East Long Beach Saturday night that blazed through an acre of vegetation and burned more than a dozen palm trees, according to fire officials.
The fire broke out just before 11 p.m. in the area of Second Street and Studebaker Road, said Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.
The fire extended to roughly one acre, with at least 20 palm trees involved, Crabtree said. An acre is just under the size of a football field.
Fifteen firefighters worked for two hours to put out the flames and conduct overhaul, Crabtree said. Video taken by a passerby shows the the heavy fire ravaging through the area.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Crabtree said.
