Bicyclist killed by hit-and-run driver in Bluff Park, police say
A woman was riding through the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Second Street Saturday afternoon when she was hit, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a car while riding a bike on Redondo Avenue in Bluff Park late Saturday afternoon.
Long Beach police say the woman was riding southbound on Redondo Avenue through the intersection with Second Street when she was hit by someone driving a gray 2025 Hyundai Sonata westbound on Second.
The driver of the Hyundai entered the intersection at a high rate of speed and did not stop at the stop sign, police said.
A bystander gave the woman aid before Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took her to a local hospital, where she later died of her injuries, according to authorities.
The woman's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office works to notify her next of kin, police said.
The driver of the Hyundai fled the scene and was last seen heading westbound on Second Street from Redondo Avenue, police added.
Police said they are investigating speed as a contributing factor in the crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Edwin Paredes at 562-570-7110.
This is the fifth traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 57 traffic-related fatalities from 55 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
