The man, who was not identified by Long Beach police, accidentally shot himself around midnight but refused to cooperate with investigating officers, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers responded around 12:23 a.m. Monday to a local hospital following reports of a shooting victim, according to the LBPD.
The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body, authorities said.
Police said that the man had "negligently discharged" a gun, striking himself. The man refused to provide investigators additional details, including the location of the shooting, according to the LBPD.
Officers were unable to locate a crime scene, police said.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the LBPD.
