7 injured in boat fire in Queensway Bay, LBFD says
The boat went ablaze shortly after 7 p.m. when it was 100 feet offshore between the Hotel Maya and the Queen Mary, fire officials said.
Seven people were injured Friday night when the boat they were on caught fure while in Queensway Bay, according to the Long Beach Fire Department said.
It’s not yet clear what caused the boat to catch fire, but LBFD spokesperson Capt. Jake Heflin said it happened shortly after 7 p.m. while the vessel was 100 feet offshore between the Hotel Maya and The Queen Mary.
Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene where they rescued the seven people aboard the 30-foot vessel and extinguished the blaze, Heflin said.
Four of the seven people aboard the boat were taken to local hospitals with various injuries, Heflin said. He could not elaborate on the extent of their injuries.
The three other people were treated at the scene and refused to be taken to the hospital, according to the LBFD.
The boat is currently being towed to an isolation dock near Alamitos Bay, according to Heflin, a standard practice for vessels that have caught fire.
A fire investigator will be looking into the cause of the blaze, Heflin said.
