Two people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a crash involving a semi-truck on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach, according to fire officials.
The crash happened when a semi-truck and a black pickup truck collided just before 2 p.m. on the Northbound 710 Freeway, just south of Long Beach Boulevard, according to a SigAlert from the California Highway Patrol.
The impact of the crash caused the semi-truck to overturn and left two people trapped, Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jake Heflin said.
Both people were eventually extricated from the wreckage and taken to local hospitals, Heflin added.
Their condition was not immediately clear, but Heflin said a Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) had to be called to the scene. A HERT is usually called when a someone needs immediate and advanced medical attention.
All lanes of traffic were closed for just over half an hour as emergency response teams helped those involved in the crash and moved the wrecked vehicles.
At least one lane has since re-opened but Caltrans cameras show heavy traffic from Downtown Long Beach to North Long Beach at Del Amo Boulevard.
