EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been updated with additional information from the Long Beach Police Department, which initially reported that the shooting had taken place during a street takeover event. The street takeover event is unrelated to the shooting, the LBPD said in an update.

Long Beach police say they are investigating a shooting during a robbery early Sunday morning that left one man injured in North Long Beach.

LBPD officers responded to a call in the 6600 block of Downey Avenue at 1:33 a.m. and found Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies aiding a man who had been shot in the lower body, police said.

The shooting took place during a robbery attempt that escalated when a male adult suspect shot the victim, according to the LBPD.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel took the victim to the hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
