1 injured, 3 displaced in West Long Beach explosion, fire officials say
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, according to fire officials.
A man was injured and three other people were displaced Monday morning when an explosion destroyed a home in West Long Beach, according to fire officials.
It’s not yet clear what exactly caused the explosion, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Jake Heflin, but the explosion happened in the 2800 block of Gale Avenue shortly after 11 a.m.
Fire crews rushed to the scene where they saw a secondary dwelling unit with significant damage and small flames, Heflin said.
Video from KTLA shows the ADU unit completely destroyed with debris scattered in neighboring houses.
The firefighters put the flames out within 20 minutes while other personnel took a man who was injured in the explosion to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.
Heflin described him as a man in his 30s, though his condition is not known.
The front house suffered minor damage, but it was enough to displace the 3 people living there, Heflin said.
