Good evening, Long Beach,
A certain plucky team of Watchdog journalists have been hard at work reporting on several issues that could affect your daily life — namely, your wallet.
City leaders have weighed everything from allowing e-scooters on the beach bike path to exploring potential tax increases to a new affordable housing mandate and beyond.
We also took you behind the curtain of a local book club for cinephiles helmed at the city’s oldest and only independent movie theater, shared where to buy a cheap breakfast and gave you the rundown on the LA Independent Beer Fest, which is coming to Long Beach this week.
Reporter Alicia Robinson wrote about this nonprofit that wants to put gardens in at every LBUSD elementary school. Then, Reporter Brandon Richardson sat down with Donnie Grimes, a resident of the city’s newest permanent supportive housing development to chat with him about his decades-long journey from drug addiction to prison and finally, a stable home.
And it won’t stop there, but we’re going to need your help to pay our team of 10 dedicated reporters, who are still out there every day, fearlessly reporting these stories, despite not having a paycheck since March 22.
We need 8,000 subscribers to become sustainable.
Help us preserve local jobs and build a strong newsroom by becoming a Watchdog today.
